My name is Hollie McGowan and I am a freelance writer/editor, documentary filmmaker and journalist born and raised on Coast Salish territory. I come from a diverse academic and experiential background, providing me with versatility and flexibility within all areas that I work and create.
A graduate of Concordia University in Montreal, Quebec, I obtained both my BA and MA within the Department of Religion. My studies also brought me to Be'er Sheva, Israel where I completed a semester of my MA at Ben Gurion University of the Negev within both the departments of Middle Eastern Studies and in Politics of Conflict. During my time in Israel, I conducted research within a variety of Israeli and Palestinian led NGOs for my final MA research paper, centering on conflict resolution between Arabs and Israelis through interfaith based practice and belief.
Following the completion of my degrees and a relocation to my West Coast roots, I became active as an electronic music journalist reviewing shows and festivals, covering stories about B.C.’s electronic music scenes, and interviewing artists both local and international for BeatRoute BC, Freq Magazine, VICE Thump Canada, and Citrus Magazine.
In 2022, I completed my certificate in journalism at Langara College. During my time in the department, I was chosen as one of the 2022 recipients of the Read-Mercer Fellowship Program which led me to an internship with the CBC where I worked for the following four years in radio broadcast. From 2022 to 2025, I worked as an associate producer for local BC programming throughout the province of BC.
